Seeking The King
by Pam Piersma
How we can seek God with our heart, mind, and will?
When we accept Jesus as our Savior but refuse to acknowledge Him as Lord, our lives will still feel quite empty. The joy and hope we want will still elude us. It makes no sense to our human minds that when we are the most dependent on God, we have the most freedom and joy. But that is the case. We forget that God made each of us and He does know us best. Our lives include all sorts of ups and downs, but we can be assured that God has good plans for us. We have to trust Him. We used to be children who thought eating candy day and night was heaven itself. But we learned the truth. Parents step in and teach us what is best for us. God is doing this in our lives as well.
Living the Christian life only partially surrendered is a lose-lose situation. We will not be satisfied with our lives, and God is not getting our whole heart as He deserves. We will not know a life of peace and joy when we refuse to submit to God. The Bible reminds us often that our lives go by very quickly. Day by day, life can feel like slow motion, but in truth, decades fly by before we know it. Psalm 39:4–5 sums it up well:
“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.”
